Even though recommended ages are listed, we place all children in classes according to skill, ability and improvement, rather than age. If your child is a beginner and/or new to our studio, please contact our staff by email or call (443) 758-3249, and we can help place them in the appropriate class.

Little Movers (ages 2-3 years)

A great introduction to dance for some of its youngest enthusiasts and one of our most popular! This class will combine elements of beginner Ballet, Rhythmic Skills, and Dance Appreciation. Students will improve flexibility, learn the basic positions of classical Ballet, and explore creative movement in a fun, encouraging atmosphere.

Pre-Dance (ages 3-7 years)

This class is offered as an introduction to dance. Depending upon the class in which your child is registered, they will learn the basics of Ballet and Tap or Ballet and Jazz ; along with Rhythm, and Movement. Great class for young beginner dancers wanting to learn 2 dance techniques. Each technique will be taught within 30 minutes during the hour class.

Ballet

Ballet is the basis of all dance forms. It is perhaps the most demanding, yet rewarding, form of dance. Not only is it beneficial to improve general physical fitness, it also encourages quick thinking and improves memory, thereby integrating mind and body into a harmonious whole being. Ballet carefully develops strength, balance, style, and the physical and mental discipline required for the proper execution of dance movements. Ballet is emphasized at our school as it is a catalyst for progress in all other dance forms. These classes will include barre exercises for warm-ups and technique development, and floor work for basic steps, turns, leaps, and combinations.

Pre-Pointe & Pointe

Pre-pointe and Pointe are an extension of ballet technique.

Contemporary

This class offers a combination of Contemporary and Improvisation styles that focuses on Graham and Horton Modern technique, along with the fluidity and abstract style of Contemporary. This class is also designed to incorporate Yoga exercises, partnering, and working to build confidence creating freeing movement within given guidelines. The improvisation portion of the class allows our students to be creative and move freely based on improvisation exercises of levels, shapes, contact and sensory dynamics to enhance choreography skills. Truly a popular class by our own S1D2 students. We have found it builds confidence and awareness in their creative movement as growing dancers.

Ballroom

This class offers instruction on how to dance with a partner to different types of music such as the waltz, quick step, salsa, Paso Doble, cha-cha, and swing.

Partnering

Partnering is movement done by 2 or more dancers cohesively. Dancers learn to lift and weight share with each other as well as understand the lead/follow relationship that many social dance styles adhere too. Partnering requires cooperation, understanding, problem solving and trust! Dancers will gain strength as well as a deeper connection to their body coordination by learning to lift and dance with others.

Progressions/Student Choreography/Improv

This class will focus on mainly Jazz/Contemporary technique. Working on traveling sequences across the floor. Jumps, turns, weight changes, leaps are all examples of what will be highlighted in this class. Student Choreography/Improv will give students prompts and exercises to help them explore their own personal movement style and ideas. Teach them how to successfully map out and piece together choreography to showcase their storytelling abilities.

Jazz

Jazz is an intensive class based on technique and style. Many styles are explored through warm-ups, isolations, stretching, footwork, progressions, turns, leaps, and combinations. This class also provides routines and exercises that build on strength, flexibility and stamina. Students learn a wide range of steps in order to learn new skills. Challenging them with more complex moves over time will allow them to master different techniques and gain a sense of achievement. All styles of Jazz are explored, including Musical Theater, through warm-ups, isolations, stretching, footwork, progressions, turns, leaps, and combinations. This class is geared more for the technical dancer. Jazz is a dance style of the body and mind. It can be lyrical in the sense of emotional interpretation. Hit isolations with sheer intensity!
