Classes For All Dance Levels

 

At S1D2, all classes are planned thoroughly; to be taught with proper terminology, conditioning stretches for flexibility, body awareness for appropriate ages and levels, and creatively challenged in a positive and caring dance environment. Even though recommended ages are listed, we place all children in classes according to skill, ability and improvement, rather than age. If your child is a beginner, please contact our staff by email or (443) 758-3249, and we can help place him/her in the appropriate class. There is a 5 student minimum for each class.

Mommy & Me
MOMMY & ME

A similar class structure to our Little Movers class, this is a great introduction to dance for some of its youngest enthusiasts and movers (ages 18 months to 3).

A chance to dance with Mom! Dancers and Mom will be able to introduce the love of dance together by learning stretches for flexibility, to learn the basic positions of classical Ballet, and explore creative movement in a fun, encouraging atmosphere without separating from Mom. Mom is able to be the student and help teach along with their child in this exciting and adorable class. Classes are available during Saturday mornings and or as a 6 Week Session During the Fall and Winter Months.

Little Movers
LITTLE MOVERS

A great introduction to dance for some of its youngest enthusiasts (ages 2 to 3) and one of our most popular! This class will combine elements of beginner Ballet, Rhythmic Skills, and Dance Appreciation. Students will improve flexibility, learn the basic positions of classical Ballet, and explore creative movement in a fun, encouraging atmosphere.

Hair: Securely pulled back out of face

Attire: Any color leotard w/optional skirt and pink tights (girls); white shirt and black pants (boys)

Shoes: Pink ballet shoes (girls); black ballet shoes (boys)

Pre-Dance
PRE-DANCE

This class is offered as an introduction to dance for 3 to 5 year olds. Depending upon the class in which your child is registered, they will learn the basics of Ballet and Tap or Ballet and Jazz ; along with Rhythm, and Movement. Great class for young beginner dancers wanting to learn 2 dance techniques. Each technique will be taught within 30 minutes during the hour class.

Classes available: Beginner and Intermediate

Hair: Securely pulled back out of face

Attire: Any color leotard w/optional skirt and pink tights (girls); white shirt and black pants (boys)

Shoes: Pink leather ballet shoes and black U-Shell tap shoes (girls); black ballet shoes and black lace-up tap shoes (boys)

Tumbling
TUMBLING

Tumbling Class geared specifically for ages 3-5.

Simple and thoughtful progressions take the beginner preschool-level dancer from log rolls and summersaults to eventually overtime to the advanced dancer tumbling effortlessly across the stage!

We start with introducing proper and safe skills and tools to help increase your dancers Flexibility, Strength, Balance, Limbering and Basic Tumbling such as rolls, walkovers, kick overs, cartwheels, partner tricks, and more.

Ballet & Pointe
BALLET & POINTE

Ballet is the basis of all dance forms. It is perhaps the most demanding, yet rewarding, form of dance. Not only is it beneficial to improve general physical fitness, it also encourages quick thinking and improves memory, thereby integrating mind and body into a harmonious whole being. Ballet carefully develops strength, balance, style, and the physical and mental discipline required for the proper execution of dance movements. Ballet is emphasized at our school as it is a catalyst for progress in all other dance forms. These classes will include barre exercises for warm-ups and technique development, and floor work for basic steps, turns, leaps, and combinations. Each Ballet class will learn a variation to perform in the Spring showcase.

Classes available:  Ballet 1, 2, 2/3, 3, 4, and 5; Pre-Pointe, Pointe 1, and Pointe 2 (permission required for all Pointe classes and Ballet level 2 and up)

Hair: Secured in a low bun

Attire: Solid color leotard w/pink tights (NO skirts/shorts or any other attire; skirts ONLY allowed for Pre-Pointe and Pointe 1 and 2) (girls); black shorts w/fitted white t-shirt (boys)

Shoes: Pink canvas ballet shoes (girls); black canvas ballet shoes (boys)

Contemporary
CONTEMPORARY

This class offers a combination of Contemporary and Improvisation styles that focuses on Graham and Horton Modern technique, along with the fluidity and abstract style of Contemporary. This class is also designed to incorporate Yoga exercises, partnering, and working to build confidence creating freeing movement within given guidelines. The improvisation portion of the class allows our students to be creative and move freely based on improvisation exercises of levels, shapes, contact and sensory dynamics to enhance choreography skills. Truly a popular class by our own S1D2 students. We have found it builds confidence and awareness in their creative movement as growing dancers.

Classes available:  Intro to Contemporary, Contemporary 1, 2, 2/3, 3, 4, and 5 (permission required for levels 2 and up)

Hair: Pulled back out of face (girls); styled neatly (boys)

Attire: easy to move in clothing, but not overly baggy (NO sweatpants or jeans)

Shoes: Barefoot, Foot-Undeez or Apolla Shocks (Joule’s and Alpha’s preferred) ONLY (NO regular socks)

Jazz
JAZZ

Jazz is an intensive class based on technique and style. Many styles are explored through warm-ups, isolations, stretching, footwork, progressions, turns, leaps, and combinations. This class also provides routines and exercises that build on strength, flexibility and stamina. Students learn a wide range of steps in order to learn new skills. Challenging them with more complex moves over time will allow them to master different techniques and gain a sense of achievement. All styles of Jazz are explored through warm-ups, isolations, stretching, footwork, progressions, turns, leaps, and combinations. This class is geared more for the technical dancer. Jazz is a dance style of the body and mind. It can be lyrical in the sense of emotional interpretation. Hit isolations with sheer intensity!

Classes available:  Jazz 1, 2, 2/3, 3, 4, and 5 (permission required for levels 2 and up)

Hair: Pulled back out of face (girls); styled neatly (boys)

Attire: leotard w/tights, shorts or leggings preferred OR form-fitting, easy to move in clothing (NO baggy shirts, sweatpants or skirts, but t-shirts and tanks are can be worn) (girls); shorts or slim dance pants (joggers) with form-fitting top (t-shirts and tanks okay, but NO sweatpants or baggy shirts) (boys)

Shoes: Tan slip-on jazz boots (levels 1-3 girls) or black slip-on jazz shoes (levels 1-3 boys); barefoot or Apolla Shocks to start classes (Joule’s and Alpha’s preferred, but NO regular socks) (levels 4-5)

Hip Hop
HIP HOP

Based on a combination of urban street dancing and house dancing, Hip Hop is one of today’s fastest-growing dance forms. Students will learn the basic steps, terminology and various styles of Hip Hop and levels of breaking dancing, in addition to several combinations, and dances.

Classes available:  Intro to Hip Hop and Hip Hop 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5 (permission required for levels 2 and up)

Hair: Pulled back in ponytail/bun

Attire: Comfortable clothing that’s easy to move in (tee or tank top w/yoga pants, leggings, capris or shorts (NO denim!)

Shoes: Pastry Grid Shoes or Pastry Trainers (see list of specific shoes required)

Tap
TAP

A clearly defined, graduated method for all ages and levels, emphasizing the development of a sense of rhythm and musicality. Speed and rhythm exercises are explored through various combinations and learning the method of eccentric rhythm counting. Advanced Tappers will also learn various styles of tap from hoofing to musical theater, opening up their knowledge base, becoming well-rounded tappers.

Classes available:  Tap 1, 2, 2/3, 3, and 4 (permission required for levels 2 and up)

Hair: Pulled back out of face

Attire: Comfortable clothing that’s easy to move in (tee or tank top w/leggings or shorts (NO jeans or dresses)

Shoes: Black full-soled, lace-up tap shoes

Breakdance
BREAKDANCE

A high-energy class for girls and boys that will teach intricate footwork, pantomime, spinning headstands, handstands, tumbling, terminology of various “freezes”, and elaborate improvised virtuosic movements!

Classes available: Breakdance 1, 2, 3, and 4 (permission required for levels 2 and up)

Attire: Comfortable clothing that’s easy to move in (NO jeans!)

Shoes: Black Pastry Grid shoes (see list of specific shoes required)

Hip Hop
ACRO/ACRO DANCE

This class is based on safe and effective progressions with proven results in five divisions of Acro Dance: Flexibility, Strength, Balancing, Limbering and Tumbling.  Developed with input from professionals and experts in ballet, modern dance, jazz, contortion, gymnastics, yoga, acro yoga, pilates, hand balancing and more, we use tools and education from CLI Partnership and Acrobatic Arts as well as an an Instructor with a dance degree and yoga certification.

Your dancer will become more confident in building their strength and skills with this class.

Classes available: Acro 1, 2 and 3 (permission required for all levels)

Hair: Secured in a low bun

Attire: Leotard, unitard or tank top w/dance shorts or leggings (ONLY boys may wear t-shirts)

Shoes: None

Adult Tap
DANCE FOR ADULTS

Adult Tap

A clearly defined, graduated method for all ages and levels, emphasizing the development of a sense of rhythm and musicality. Speed and rhythm exercises are explored through various combinations and learning the method of eccentric rhythm counting. Adult Class

A rotating class designed of Ballet and styles of Jazz. This class is by far our most popular and known for its “intense” workout. Isolations, stretching, rhythms, upper body strength, core exercises, and funky footwork are all emphasized. The instructor will incorporate elements of technique and style in each class . Each class ends with learning choreography to popular music. No experience is needed. Just bring your energy!!!

Hair: Pulled back out of face

Attire: Comfortable clothing that’s easy to move in

Shoes: Bare feet, socks or Apolla Shocks

Fam Jam Dance Jam
FAM JAM DANCE JAM

Once a month we will be holding a “Fam Jam” Dance Jam in Studio B for all families that would like to share in the FUN of dance together. $10 per person for an hour class. Bring the entire family from the dads to the brothers even Grandmoms! Style will be Hip Hop, lots of groovin’ and a good time! No dance experience is needed! Just bring tennis shoes, dressed to sweat, and have fun learning a dance combination together has a family.

Ages 4+

Monthly Tuition

Automatic withdrawals are deducted from your account on the 1st of every  month. Please ensure your credit/debit card information is kept up-to-date to prevent a non-payment fee from being assessed. For those not having monthly tuition automatically deducted, payments are due by the 7th of every month. 

A $15 late fee per child will be assessed after the 7th. Card declines will incur a $25 fee and automatic withdrawal will be removed for that month.

Please note: As stated within our studio policy, there are NO REFUNDS OR PRORATION for missed or dropped classes. All payments are non-refundable.

Please know that only ONE discount can be applied. There are no refunds for unused or missed classes, and no discounts on registration fees. 

  • Military Discount – 10% discount for any active or veteran guardian of student
  • Automatic Payment Withdrawal Signup (Fall only) – 5% discount off of total applied starting in October and only on tuition. Deductions are on the 1st of the month starting in October. Paperwork must be signed and handed in to office staff.
  • Payment of 2019/2020 yearly tuition in full (if paid by 9/4/2019) – 15% discount (NO late exceptions)
  • Protege – 5% off his/her classes only
  • Teacher Trainer – 1 FREE class per month

Registration

When enrolling your child(ren) for our upcoming dance season, we will need the appropriate registration fee and the 1st month’s tuition (for Summer sessions, full payment is due and there is NO registration fee). Please be prepared to provide the necessary information. Your child’s spot in class is not guaranteed without payment.

Registration Fees (FALL ONLY) 

For New Students, there is a $60 registration fee for individuals or a $65 fee for families.

For Returning Students, there is a $40 registration fee for individuals or a $45 fee for families.

Withdrawal Policy

Please know that we ask for 30 days notice when withdrawing from a class, along with a completed and signed withdrawal form to prevent further invoices and charges. In the event that less than 30 days notice is given, we will charge said tuition for the following month. This can be found in our registration policy packet and our policy brochure located in our waiting room.

Frequently Asked Questions

If I sign up for automatic tuition withdrawal, when is the payment deducted from my account?

Automatic withdrawals are deducted from your account on the 1st of every  month. Please ensure your credit/debit card information is kept up-to-date to prevent a non-payment fee from being assessed.

If your automatic payment cannot be deducted, a $15 late fee per child will be assessed after the 7th. Card declines will incur a $25 fee and automatic withdrawal will be removed for that month.

I enrolled my child in a fall/winter session, but I've changed my mind. Can I get a refund?

If classes have not yet started, you can get a refund of the 1st month’s tuition. If classes have already started, you must submit a class withdrawal form to our office staff, which requires 30 days notice, however, you will not be able to get any refund of payments already made.

I enrolled my child in a summer session, but I've changed my mind. Can I get a refund?

Unfortunately, no refunds can be given for any registered summer sessions. However, we may be able to apply your registration payment towards another summer session.

My child is going to miss/has missed a couple weeks of classes, do I have to pay full tuition for that month?

Yes, there are no refunds or proration for missed or dropped classes. All payments are non-refundable.

I'm not sure which level class to register my child for. What do I do?

I'm trying to register my child for a class, but no class options are showing in the registration portal. Help!

In order to register a student for class, the student’s date of birth must be entered into the system first in order to view the appropriate class levels available to her/him.

If you’re still having issues after entering your child’s birthdate, please call or email us during business hours.

Do I have to pay for my child's class registration at the time of signup or can I pay at a later date?

Yes, you must pay at the time of registration. Your child’s spot in class is not guaranteed without payment. We cannot place holds on any available spots in class.
